Valve stem oil seals are installed on the intake and exhaust valve guides to block lubricating oil from flowing down into the cylinder combustion chamber. Worn valve oil seals will lead to engine burning oil, blue smoke from exhaust pipe and carbon accumulation inside the engine. It is recommended to replace the whole set of valve stem oil seals when disassembling the cylinder head for valve maintenance or engine overhaul.
